ILM’s Fan-Favorite Star Wars Making-of Series Is Now Streaming Season 2

The first season of Light & Magic turned a spotlight on the creators and innovators of Industrial Light & Magic, better-known as ILM and best-known as the company founded in 1975 to create special effects for the first Star Wars movie. In the decades since, ILM has put its stamp on essential movies not just from George Lucas, but Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, and beyond, racking up Oscars and thrilling audiences.

The doc series, directed by Lawrence Kasdan (co-writer of Star Wars entries The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens, and Solo: A Star Wars Story; he also wrote Indiana Jones’ debut adventure, Raiders of the Lost Ark), streamed its first season in 2022 to critical acclaim.

Episodes focused on the creation of ILM (in an entry appropriately titled “Gang of Outsiders”) as well as the race to complete work on Star Wars, the daunting task of working on Star Wars‘ sequel after its smash success, its work on ’80s blockbusters, its shift to digital technology, and finally its triumphant achievements onJurassic Park.

That leaves plenty of subject matter for season two, and at the Light & Magic panel at Star Wars Celebration, fans learned more about what’s in store when season two arrives on Disney+ today—with a trailer for everyone to admire before streaming the show itself.

Light & Magic season two continues the chronological history of the company, picking up with Star Wars‘ return to the big screen with The Phantom Menace. It runs three episodes and is now streaming on Disney+.
