If you’ve been having issues playing music or searching for songs on Spotify this morning, you’re not alone. Many users have taken to social media to report problems with Spotify, and the popular music streaming service seems to be experiencing a major outage.

According to downdetector.com, a website that tracks outages, reports began to pour in about Spotify being down at around 8am EST. Since 9am EST, there have been over 50,000 reports of the app not working, with outage reports for Spotify coming in from all around the world. Spotify’s web player, desktop app, and mobile app are all affected.

Spotify has acknowledged it is experiencing issues, posting on X, “We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out.” There is no word on when Spotify’s services will be fully restored and users will be able to listen to music again, but keep checking back as this post will be updated with any developments.

What’s happening with Spotify?

Playlists aren’t loading, and music won’t stream

A phone with Spotify on it

Since Spotify has over 600 million users worldwide, people quickly noticed that the music streaming service was experiencing issues.

I first suspected something was wrong with Spotify when I opened the app to listen to my morning playlist, but it wouldn’t load at all. I also tried using the search function to find songs, but that didn’t work either, resulting in an error message saying “something went wrong.” When I attempted to play some of my favorite albums, I kept receiving the error message “couldn’t find that album.”

Spotify listeners on social media are abuzz right now due to the outage, which is occurring at the exact same time many are going through their morning routine in the US. As with any major outage, users have flooded X with memes about the situation.

Spotify has posted on its community forum as well about the outage, saying “We’re seeing reports from users that the app isn’t loading properly or that they’re experiencing playback issues” and that its “tech folks are currently looking to this.” Hopefully Spotify is back up soon, so everyone in the world can get back to jamming out to tunes. Other music streaming services like Apple Music and YouTube Music are still working.

Music streaming services are convenient, but I often find myself consuming albums the good old-fashioned way: by loading up on local mp3 files.
