MediaTek To Unveil M90 5G-Advanced Modem At MWC 2025

During MWC 2025, starting on March 3, MediaTek will fully unveil its latest M90 5G-Advanced modem, designed to deliver significant advancements in mobile connectivity. Supporting the 3GPP Release 17 standard and future Release 18, the modem is capable of download speeds of up to 12Gbps and enhances upload performance by up to 20% through 2T-2T Uplink TX switching technology. Recognizing the increasing reliance on AI-driven devices, MediaTek aims to introduce a new 5G modem that optimizes mobile connectivity performance.

The M90 modem supports both sub-6GHz (FR1) with up to 6CC-CA and mmWave (FR2) with up to 10CC-CA, along with dual active 5G SIM support, allowing users to simultaneously connect to two networks. One of the key innovations is the integration of MediaTek Modem AI (MMAI) technology, which leverages artificial intelligence to enhance energy efficiency and connectivity. By analyzing data traffic patterns and detecting device usage, the AI-driven modem can intelligently optimize network performance. Additionally, the Smart Antenna feature, powered by AI, enhances environmental detection accuracy by 99.5% and increases data transmission rates by up to 24%.

Satellite Connectivity and Energy Efficiency

Expanding its coverage capabilities, the M90 modem includes support for satellite-based connectivity (NTN), utilizing 3GPP IoT-NTN and NR-NTN technologies to provide network access in remote locations. To further enhance efficiency, MediaTek UltraSave technology reduces average power consumption by up to 18%, extending the battery life of connected devices.

Future-Proof Technology

According to Mingxi Fan, Senior General Manager at MediaTek, the company is already working on solutions for the transition to 6G networks. While it remains unclear which devices will feature the M90 modem, additional details are expected to be revealed soon.
